29 weeks 6 days.
How much weight have you gained?
Around 27 pounds. I am 3 pounds shy of what I weighed with Teadora at this same point of pregnancy. I contribute it to a little freaking out on my part as well as feeling good enough to go walking (at least 3 miles) every day for the past 2 weeks.
How big is baby?
About the size of a head of cabbage. Three pounds, 15 inches or so.
How are you feeling?
Mostly good. I figured out that if I take a pill right before I go to bed, I prevent the morning nausea long enough for me to get breakfast going. It’s the fast over night that kills me. Plus I have a regular eating schedule (every 2 hours or so) that keeps me steady too.
As far as Cholestasis (if you remember, it’s the liver disorder I had with Teadora), I haven’t had any signs yet. It came on with Tea at 32 weeks, so we’ll see. My doctor did a blood test that they don’t usually do to see how my liver was functioning, and it looks good so far.
Are you sleeping?
I sleep really hard most nights. I’m sleeping way better than I ever did in my first pregnancy. Probably because I chase that toddler around all day. I’m starting to feel puffy in my legs when I wake up and my hips and back are super sore, but the walking has helped that a lot.
What are your current cravings/aversions?
Sugar. Sugar. Sugar. Can’t get enough cookies. I don’t really feel disinclined toward anything right now. Food just is good in general. I’m even eating things I wouldn’t normally (read: italian meatball sandwich).
What’s new in the nursery?
Well, we decided to put the new baby in his own room (which means that our loft living room will now be our bedroom) so our kids don’t give each other sleep problems. We’re working on putting together Tea’s “big girl” bed (which is actually my very own “big girl” bed for most of my youth) so the baby can have the crib. Everything else will likely be hand-me-downs from my sister. My husband and I are starting to make a list of things we might need. 10ish weeks left and I’m just starting to collect things for my son.
What are you thinking about this week?
It’s hard to focus on my son right now. I’ve been working on getting Tea ready for her bed, getting rid of her pacifiers, and even potty training (and she’s doing great with all of it, by the way). I guess this is preparation for having a new baby, but it distracts me from other things I need to do before he gets here. I’m trying to think about what a day in the life of two kids might look like. How does a scheduled toddler mesh with a newborn?
What are you missing?
Still running. I think about it a lot. It would be nice not to have the aches and pains, too. Sleeping on my belly. But I’ve gone easier on myself this time around, so I’m not missing very much.
What are you looking forward to?
Baby boy’s wild hair (if he has it!).
Random notes:
For those of you who don’t know yet: our son’s name will be “John Crosby.” It means “God is Gracious at the Cross.” I asked God at the beginning of the pregnancy what a good name for this boy would be, and he said “John” and I said “don’t be silly.” Because I always thought my boy’s name would be unique and different and a little bit out there (according to Wikipedia, John is the most popular name in the history of the world). But the more I resisted, the more it buried itself in my mind. Then God showed me why it was fitting. We’ve gone through a season of really seeing God’s grace change our lives and our marriage, so much so that we feel like entirely different people. It just feels right to name our boy in honor of what He’s gifting us.
But because God is gracious to me, our boy has 2 names and the second one is unique and different and a little bit out there: Crosby. And we like it because we want our boy to remember what Jesus did “at the Cross” for us. Like the song: “Lead me to the cross/Where Your love poured out/Bring me to my knees/Lord I lay me down/Rid me of myself/I belong to You/Lead me, lead me to the cross.”
So John Crosby it is. And that’s what we plan to call him. John Crosby. The full name together. Not just John. And I will probably call him Crosby or Cros just as much.

Love this! And love his name!!! Looking forward to Finn Falcon and John Crosby play dates!
